IMD in Spain

We are celebrating IMD in Spain in two different cities! See below all the details and how to join.

Microbiology workshops in leON

To celebrate IMD we organized 4 mini workshops at a High School in León on 18 September 2023. These involved, microorganisms present in surfaces and food, PCR and its applications in food microbiology, what is a biofilm, and how to perform a disk diffusion test. To make these activities a little bit more interesting we have performed an escape room where the students had to solve 4 problems related to the workshops.

The event went great, the students were so motivated with all the activities so we are thinking about extending the workshop to others high schools or to students of different ages next year.

Come and join us to learn about beneficial bacteria for plant biofertilisation and food production.

On 18 September 2023, we celebrated IMD at a unique venue, the 21-meter Dome of DOMO 360 in Madrid! We welcomed over 60 high school students and showed the importance of microorganisms in the environment and in biotechnological processes.

We held a workshop on nodulation of legumes where we showed "live" rhizobia grown in the laboratory, in association with legumes in the nodules of pea, lentils, chickpeas, beans and soya beans. Students also visited the microbiology lab of our university and had a guided tour where they learned about how microbes are involved in food, beer, bread and wine production.

Our event was a big sucess! We where very happy that students asked many questions and even showed interest in pursuing microbiology as a university degree!
