IMD 2025 celebrated microorganisms around the world
From hands-on workshops to school activities to online events, International Microorganisms Day 2025 brought the invisible world of microbes vividly to life, inspiring curiosity and engagement across the globe. With over 60 events in 40 countries, the celebration highlighted its global reach, showcasing the creativity and collaboration of the microbiology community. It brought together scientists, educators, students, and the wider public to share knowledge, encourage exploration, and emphasise the vital role of microorganisms.

International Microorganism Day 2025 featured a wide variety of creative and engaging activities worldwide. Participants explored the microbial world through skill-building workshops, interactive exhibitions, public lectures, school programmes and online discussions. These events offered opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds to learn, experiment, and engage with microbiology. The Microbe Art Competition
A much-loved highlight of International Microorganism Day returned this year with the Microbe Art Competition, inviting participants to share their creativity. Entries came in every form imaginable, from agar art to cartoons, paintings, photography, and even physical works. The winners in each category, including the Grand Prize for Best Art Overall, were announced on 17 September 2025 across social media channels and on the website.
