Tiny Titans: Helpful Heroes and Harmful Villains

When: 17 September 2025

Time: 09:00 - 17:00

Where: National Ploughing Championship 2025

Event Description: The National Ploughing Championships 2025 will take place from September 16th to 18th in Screggan, Tullamore, Co. Offaly. Ireland's biggest outdoor event isn't just about tractors and trade, but it is also a chance to explore the hidden world of microbes! These tiny titans are everywhere: some can make us sick if we don't wash our hands properly, while others are our best friends, helping us make delicious fermented foods like cheese, yogurt, and sourdough bread.

At our stand, you'll get to see the invisible coming to life! With GloGerm and UV light, we'll show how microbes linger on our hands and why proper handwashing is so important. And to balance the story, we'll also celebrate the good guys, those that bring flavor, health, and life to our food.

Registration: As part of the event, the School of Food Science and Environmental Health at Technological University Dublin will showcase the hidden world of microbes. You will learn about proper handwashing and also discover the beneficial microbes behind delicious fermented foods, showing how microbes can be both tiny titans and tasty allies!
