IMD in Brazil

International Microorganism Day 2022 travels all the way to Brazil with three events that celebrate microbes!

On 17th September 2022 we celebrated International Microorganism Day at the Cocó Ecological Park in Brazil! Our event was open to the public and we gathered over 200 attendees, of which half were young children!

We had different exhibitions and playful materials for the kids running throughout the day, for example, microbes in foods and beverages, soil microbes, and aquatic microbes. Many visitors looked surprised and excited by having the opportunity to see "live" microbes they didn't even know existed as well as from having the opportunity to look through the microscope, which had one of the biggest queues. The origami workshop was a huge success among children and adults as well, and we had to repeat it several times during the day because many visitors wanted to do their own covid-19 virus. We look forward to next year!

We would like to thank our event organizers: Plankton Laboratory, Plankton Observatory and PELD CSB (Labomar/UFC), PET Biology (Department of Biology/UFC), and Ôxe Science Project (Univasf-Campus Senhor do Bonfim) and all students that helped make this event possible!

IMD @ LARVAS CITY

On the 16th and 17th September we celebrated International Microorganism Day in Larvas Brazil with over 300 attendees in total!

On the first day we organized a scientific exhibition at the Federal University of Lavras showing the importance of microorganisms in our food, health, biotechnology processes, environment and ecology. It was open to the public and we received more than 200 people.

On the second day we organized a Scientific exhibition at public school Dora Matarazzo - Lavras. The number of attendees was about 100 elementary school students between the ages of 12 and 17. Volunteers organized various activities (scientific exhibition, practical activities and games) in order to demystify the microorganisms.
