The microorganisms around us

When? 12 September 2023

Where? Liceo Bicentenario Provincial Santa Teresa de los Andes, Colina, Santiago

Our Santiago school visit will teach about the microorganisms that are around us in a daily basis, giving an small introduction about what microorganisms could be found in our surroundings, as fungi, bacteria, and microeukaryotes. After the small talk, the students will observe in a shared microscope the different samples, with a final sample of rotten vegetables in which we will show the fungus that infect the vegetable and explain why is dangerous for us to consume that food even if we throw away the visible infected zone, while the process indeed is a form of microbial recycling of nutrients.
