IMD in Mexico

Two International Microorganism Day events will take place in Mexico in different cities! Read below for more details.

The colorful life of microorganisms

On 13 September 2023, we celebrated IMD with the Center for Environmental Microbiology and Biotechnology Research (CIMAB) at the Autonomous University of Campeche. Indeed this is the third year we run such a celebration there!

School students took part in our three activities; outreach talks from researchers from other research centers in the region, interactive games, and exhibition tables with microbiological materials. Our event was focused on increasing awareness about the significance of microorganisms, with a specific emphasis on their environmental and biotechnological importance, while setting aside the negative pathogenic and medical aspects.

“We had never had the opportunity to be in front of a microscope before. I can't stop marveling at how incredible it is for my eyes to see a microorganism.” - testimonial from a student attendee

This event was organized by Universidad Autónoma de Campeche and Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México.

Beneficial microbes for the world

When? 21 and 22 September 2023

Where? Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León

We have planned several exciting activities to celebrate IMD! We invite middle school students to join us and learn about beneficial microbes, visit a research laboratory to see microbes under the microscope, and take part in a painting microbial art contest.

Additionally, we partnered with a feed company to support middle school students to have a field trip to appreciate nature and understand the role of microbes in maintaining environmental equilibrium.
