Event Description: This event, entitled “Microbes for a Healthy Planet and People,” will be held in celebration of International Microorganism Day 2025. It will focus on the vital roles microorganisms play in supporting both human health and environmental sustainability. The event will explore how microbes contribute to disease prevention, food production, waste treatment, and ecosystem balance. Participants will gain insights into the diverse types of microbes, their beneficial applications in medicine and environmental engineering, and innovative ways we can harness them to address global challenges such as pollution, food security, and climate change. We will also discuss the potential risks of pathogenic microbes and approaches to managing them safely. This event provides an opportunity for students, researchers, and faculty to deepen their understanding of the microbial world and its profound impact on our lives and the planet.

Event Objectives:

  • To raise awareness of the importance of microorganisms in maintaining human health and environmental wellbeing

  • To educate students and the public about the diverse roles of microbes in medicine, agriculture, and environmental sustainability

  • To inspire innovative and responsible use of microbes for creating a healthier and more sustainable future

Undergraduate and graduate students, scientists, and faculty

Seminar, hands-on microbiology workshop, and students’ poster presentation f. Speakers or Facilitators:
Eminent microbiologists including Prof. Ji-Dong Gu and Prof. Varenyam Achal
