Celebration of Researchers’ Night Festival and International Microorganism Day
When: 26 September 2025
Time: 15:00 - 21:00
Where: Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology (IMCB), Riia 23, Tartu, University of Tartu
Event Description: Join the Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology at the University of Tartu for a dynamic celebration of science during Researchers' Night and International Microorganism Day. This free event, held in Estonian, invites students (especially from secondary and high schools) as well as the general public to explore the fascinating world of microbiology, biotechnology, and cell biology through interactive and hands-on experiences.
The program includes engaging workshops such as the “Pipetting Olympics,”
“Microbes and Plant Protection,” “Fruitflies,” “The Secret Code of the Body,” and “Microbe Patrol,” where participants can explore topics ranging from lab techniques to microbial biocontrol and genetic coding. An exciting escape room titled “Diving into the Life of Oceans” runs throughout the evening, offering a fun and immersive learning experience.
Visitors can also enjoy guided house tours of the institute, an indoor health course, and opportunities to connect with researchers, students, and science enthusiasts over snacks and ice cream. The event is facilitated by institute staff, students, and members of the Travelling Bioclass and Biosciences Students’ Association.
The main goals are to promote scientific literacy, spark curiosity in life sciences, and showcase the institute’s research. With up to 100 participants expected and 160 workshop slots available, the event promises a lively and educational atmosphere. Pre-registration for workshops is required via the event homepage.
Whether you're curious about microbes, fascinated by fruit flies, or eager to decode the secrets of life, this celebration offers something for everyone
