Event Description:
"Tagô nga Kalibutan: Pagtukib sa Ginagmay nga Kinabuhi," or "Hidden World: Adventure on the Small World," is a compelling continuation of last year’s IMD 2024 celebration, “Tagô nga Kalibutan”. This event aims to ignite curiosity, promote scientific literacy, and showcase the significance of microbiology in daily life
This is a student-led event in celebration of International Microorganism Day 2025, to be held on October 17, 2025, at the College of Medicine Gymnasium, West Visayas State University. The program primarily welcomes first-year BS Biology students of WVSU, alongside invited participants from selected schools in Iloilo, with an expected attendance of around 200 individuals.
The event aims to immerse students in the field of microbiology through a structured yet engaging program. It will begin with an opening ceremony and Micro-Talks, featuring lectures on bacteriology and mycology by esteemed experts, providing foundational knowledge and inspiration.
The second segment will highlight interactive exhibits and workshops, designed to develop laboratory skills and spark curiosity. Stations include Agar Art, Fungal Culture Techniques (Agar Blocking), Streaking and Plating Methods, Microscopy, educational board games like Bacterial Invasion, and personality-based activities such as What Microbe Are You?. Participants will use stamp cards to ensure active engagement at each station, fostering both learning and enjoyment.
The culminating segment will feature the Micro Quiz Bowl, where representatives from WVSU and invited schools will compete in a lively contest of microbiological knowledge, followed by the awarding of winners, closing ceremony, and feedback session.
Through this initiative, Tagô nga Kalibutan seeks to:
• Introduce students to microbiology and its real-world applications.
• Enhance laboratory skills through hands-on activities.
• Foster appreciation for the role of microorganisms in health, the environment, and industry.
• Promote collaboration among academic institutions across Iloilo.
• Build a community of young, aspiring microbiologists.
