Collaging synthetic biology: Imagining microbial futures
When: 16 September 2025
Time: 17:00 - 19:00
Where: Kemicentrum, Lund
Event Description
Event type: Hands-on creative science workshop
Join us for a unique workshop that combines science and art to explore the fascinating world of microorganisms and their role in synthetic biology. Using collage as a medium, we will imagine how microbes can help shape sustainable futures, from medicine and food to textiles and the environment.
The workshop will be led by:
- iGEM Lund Team: A group of Lund University students with diverse backgrounds, competing in the iGEM 2025 competition. Their project focuses on using synthetic biology to create sustainable solutions for textile waste degradation.
- Anabella Aguilera: Biologist and project coordinator at SciLifeLab, Sweden’s leading life sciences research infrastructure. Anabella brings together science and visual arts to make complex topics accessible, fun and inspiring.
Target audience:
Newly arrived university students in Lund, curious minds ready to connect, create, and discover the power of microbes in shaping our world.
Objective:
To introduce students to synthetic biology and the crucial role of microorganisms, while sparking dialogue and new ways of thinking through artistic expression.
