Are you passionate about microorganisms and their incredible impact on our world? Do you want to contribute to raising awareness about their vital role in life on Earth?
We invite interested individuals and/or organisations to organise their own #InternationalMicroorganismDay event in their own country on 17 September 2026.

Event submissions will be accepted and announced on a rolling basis, submit your events by 30 June, 31 July, or 31 August.
As IMD is led by FEMS, submissions are managed through the myFEMS account, part of a broader platform designed for the microbiology community.

Step 1: Plan and submit Your Event
Gather your team, department, school, or institution and collaborate to come up with an exciting event idea. You can explore past IMD events for inspiration. Once your concept is finalised, simply submit it through the online myFEMS platform. As IMD is led by FEMS, submissions are managed through the myFEMS account.
To get started simply create a myFEMS account:
Click the registration link and complete the user details asked.
Once you have filled in all required fields, click “create account.”
Once your account is created simply sign in via the website using your details and get started.
Event submissions will be reviewed and announced on a rolling basis. Submission deadlines: 30 June, 31 July, or 31 August.
Step 2: Prepare and Promote
Once your event is approved, start getting everything ready. Confirm your venue, timings, and activities, and brief everyone involved. Promote your event within your team, community, or networks to build interest and encourage participation.
To help bring your event to life, make use of our downloadable educational resources, social media packs, and IMD mascot downloads, all designed to support learning, engagement, and visibility.
All approved events will also be featured on our online channels to help amplify your reach in the lead-up to IMD.
Step 4: Post‑Event Wrap‑Up
Once your event has finished, take a moment to reflect and evaluate how it went. Upload your feedback and up to 10 event photos via the online platform.
Selected content may be featured on our website and used in promotional materials for future IMD campaigns.
