Microbial Handprints

Free HSI STEM event for all ages representing all areas of science. Open tot the community with music, cultural performances, and food.
One of the tables will highlight microbial handprints with microbial handprints images and an opportunity do do your own microbial handprint while other tables will have hands on STEM activities ranging from chemistry to environmental experiments and information. Event is set at the college level but also appropriate for K-12.

The Greatest Discovery in Modern Medicine (and the Virus that is No More)

Dr. Edward Jenner first tested the world's first successful smallpox vaccine in 1796, making a significant advance over the ancient practice of variolation against this ancient and devastating infectious disease. One hundred and eighty-four years later, smallpox was declared eradicated from the planet by the World Health Organization, the only microorganism to no longer circulate in the human population due to deliberate human intervention.
On IMD 2026, we observe the 230th anniversary of Dr. Jenner's critical discovery with a screening of the 2010 BBC documentary, "Jenner's Marvellous Medicine". This will be followed by a series of reflections on the significance of Jenner's discovery by our panelists, Dr. René Najera (The College of Physicians of Philadelphia), Brian Dean Abramson (National Vaccine Law Association, USA), and Dr. Michael Caldwell (Meharry Medical College, Dry January USA)
