Celebration of International Microorganisms Day 2026

International Microorganisms Day (IMD) 2026, organized by the Department of Microbiology, RK University in collaboration with the Microbiologists Society, India (MBSI), will engage UG and PG students through creative, science‑based competitions, promoting microbial awareness, interdisciplinary learning, teamwork, innovation, and scientific communication skills across academic domains.
International Microorganisms Day (IMD) – 2026 will be organized by the Department of Microbiology, RK University, with the objective of celebrating the vital role of microorganisms in health, environment, and industry. The event will engage undergraduate, postgraduate, and PhD scholars through a range of interactive, creative, and scientific activities aligned with themes such as bioremediation, fermented foods, probiotics, and microscopy.
The program is organized in collaboration with the Microbiologists Society, India (MBSI), strengthening its scientific outreach, professional engagement, and academic credibility. This collaboration will enhance visibility and facilitate meaningful interaction with the wider microbiology community.
The key objectives of the event are to promote scientific awareness about microorganisms and their applications, encourage student participation in microbiology‑related creative and technical activities, highlight the role of microbiology in sustainable development, foster teamwork and innovative thinking, and create an engaging platform for knowledge exchange beyond classroom learning.
The program is designed to promote interdisciplinary learning by integrating microbiology with art, food science, and digital media, thereby enhancing scientific communication skills among students. Eminent speakers from academia and research institutions have been contacted to deliver expert talks on contemporary microbiological themes, and final confirmation is currently in progress.

The International Symposium on Microbial Resistance 2026 (ISMR 2026) brings together researchers, clinicians, academicians, and industry professionals to explore emerging challenges and innovative solutions in microbial resistance. The symposium highlights resistance mechanisms, surveillance, diagnostics, One Health, novel antimicrobials, nanotechnology, artificial intelligence, and advanced strategies for combating resistant microorganisms globally.
The International Symposium on Microbial Resistance 2026 (ISMR 2026) will be held on 17 September 2026 as part of the global celebration of International Microorganism Day. The symposium will bring together researchers, academicians, clinicians, microbiologists, biotechnologists, healthcare professionals, research scholars, students, and industry experts to exchange knowledge and discuss emerging challenges in microbial and antimicrobial resistance. The scientific programme will explore molecular and genetic mechanisms of resistance, multidrug-resistant microorganisms, biofilms, microbial persistence, antimicrobial resistance surveillance, genomics, metagenomics, bioinformatics, and clinical and environmental dimensions of resistance through a One Health perspective. Emerging solutions, including novel antimicrobial agents, antimicrobial peptides, bacteriocins, phage therapy, nanotechnology-based approaches, microbiome research, and advanced diagnostic and therapeutic technologies, will also be highlighted. ISMR 2026 aims to promote interdisciplinary scientific exchange, foster international research collaborations, and provide opportunities for young researchers to present their work. IMD-26 is a science outreach and educational event centred on the theme "Microorganisms in Health & Ecosystems”. The objectives are to promote awareness of microbiology, encourage scientific communication, and foster interdisciplinary learning through interactive activities that immerse students-researchers in the world of microbes and inspire new innovations for sustainable development
The program includes:
A guest talk by an eminent microbiologist/ scientist. Quiz Quest to test participants' knowledge of microbiology. Microscopy Challenge for hands-on exploration of microorganisms.
Comic Strip Competition to promote creative science communication. Postcard Exchange to encourage collaboration and cultural exchange through scientific themes.
Overall the program combines educational talks, competitions, and interactive sessions to create an enjoyable and memorable learning experience for participants.
Additionally, an outreach event for school students for high-resolution microscopy of natural water and soil samples is planned which would be an eye-opener challenge practical to dive deep into the world of microbes
