The Good Bacteria - A Video-Podcast for Kids

A video-podcast on Good Bacteria and their benefits to the society will be created specifically for kids and presented in the local language (Filipino) through social media platforms.
Undergraduate students enrolled in the course Bacteriology will be tasked to prepare a 3-minute video podcast highlighting the importance of bacteria in our society. The podcast will target kids, aged 8 - 12 years old, and will be shared through social media platforms like Facebook. Preparation of the output will commence at start of the semester (August 2026) and will be uploaded to the official FB page of our department and/or personal FB page of the students on September 17 as part of the celebration for the International Microorganisms Day.

Together, we are culturing curiosity, one pixel at a time.
West Visayas State University (WVSU), through its Microbiology students, has pioneered the celebration of International Microorganism Day (IMD) in the Philippines, earning recognition from the Federation of European Microbiological Societies (FEMS). For two consecutive years, WVSU has engaged scholars and communities, affirming its role in promoting microbiology awareness and education.
The 2026 celebration, themed Culturing Curiosity, One Pixel at a Time, provides a dynamic platform for young scholars to experience microbiology beyond textbooks. It emphasizes that early exposure to authentic scientific inquiry inspires future scientists, strengthens community appreciation, and aligns local efforts with the global mission of FEMS.
Objectives:
(1) Introduce and highlight microbiology’s importance to young scholars;
(2) Provide avenues for scientific curiosity through interactive activities;
(3) Encourage analytical skills, teamwork, and problem‑solving;
(4) Motivate pursuit of scientific careers through forums, hands‑on experiences, and fun booths.
Key Activities:

MicroMind Challenge: Academic quiz fostering mastery and critical thinking.
Micro Lab Race: Team competition showcasing essential lab skills.
Micro Quests: Interactive booths as mini‑quests with rewards.
