Paraguay Microbe Week 2026

The Paraguay Microbe Week 2026 will celebrate the International Microorganism Day through science outreach activities including a microbiological art competition, microbiology-inspired food exhibition, public lectures, laboratory demonstrations, and the First National Microorganism Race, highlighting the essential role of microorganisms in health, agriculture, food production, industry, and environmental sustainability.
Paraguay Microbe Week 2026 is a national science outreach initiative organized by the Centro Multidisciplinario de Investigaciones Tecnológicas (CEMIT), National University of Asunción (UNA), to celebrate International Microorganism Day 2026. Building on the success of the First Microbiological Art Competition (2024), the event aims to increase public awareness of the vital role of microorganisms in health, agriculture, food production, biotechnology, environmental sustainability, and scientific innovation.
The program includes the Second National Microbiological Art Competition, a Microbial Food Expo, scientific lectures by researchers and invited experts, the First National Microorganism Race, and laboratory exhibitions featuring microorganisms, microbiological techniques, and ongoing research at CEMIT.
The event targets high school and university students, teachers, researchers, health and agricultural professionals, food industry representatives, policymakers, and the general public. Its main objective is to improve scientific literacy by highlighting the beneficial contributions of microorganisms to society and promoting microbiology through engaging, accessible, and interactive activities.
Researchers from UNA and collaborating institutions will participate, with additional speakers from government, academia, and industry. The initiative is supported by the ESTR01-4 Strategic Project, which will sponsor competition awards and strengthen public engagement with science.
